The Malta Study Circle and MaltaPost have jointly published a revised and enhanced edition of "Malta in World War I - Photographic Postcards".
This publication records the life of Allied Forces and Prisoners of War in Malta during World War I. It contains the most comprehensive selection of such cards ever to have been assembled. It illustrates postcards of early 20th century Malta which were bought by the thousands of wounded and convalescing servicemen wishing to communicate with their families back home. The publication also carries numerous photographs of life in a prisoner-of-war camp that recount the sporting and cultural activities as well as the crafts applied by the prisoners themselves.
The wide range of Malta greeting cards inscribed in English, French or Italian reflect the military alliances prevailing at the time.
This publication coincides with a set of commemorative postage stamps depicting Bighi and Floriana hospitals as well as HMHS Rewa, which transported to Malta thousands of wounded from the battlefields of Gallipoli.
This publication of 368 pages is in hardback format and includes contributions by experts in the field of Malta postal history.
